At the time of writing this, we have a new moon in Scorpio, a time usually dedicated to setting intentions and embracing a fresh start. With the moon resting in her dark phase, it is currently easy for us to become attuned to the shadows surrounding us, reminding us of Scorpio’s transformative power.
As night falls, shadows may emerge, stirring reflections and revealing previously hidden wounds, traumas, and pains. These discoveries can be triggering and weigh heavily on our hearts, tempting us into self judgement and frustration by the presence of yet new layers to heal.
The current planetary transits are amplifying these energies. With Mars being in Cancer and Pluto being in Capricorn at the time when I write this, we are experiencing heightened feelings and tension carrying a fiery charge. This energy can feel chaotic, all consuming and self destructive. Scorpio’s energy, known for its depth and intensity, is merely adding itself to these undercurrents, guiding us to face the parts of ourselves we may have shied away from until now.
Though new moons typically offer a quieter energy, this one feels particularly emotionally charged. With the Sun and Moon both in Scorpio, alongside Mars in Cancer and Neptune and Saturn in Pisces, the emphasis on water energy is tangible, drawing us inward to examine our wounds. Mars in Cancer may even provoke some anger as we confront these vulnerabilities.
We might feel impatient, irritated, and perhaps even disillusioned with the path of healing. But Scorpio season calls for endurance—a trait that Scorpio embodies amidst its deeply shadowy keep. For Scorpio’s realm is often hidden, and yet it is within this secret lair that true transformation usually occurs.
This hidden transformational process can also be known as alchemy whereby lead is transformed into gold. As the sacred alchemist of the zodiac, Scorpio understands that true transformation requires pausing, turning inward, and uncovering layers of “lead” (conditioning, trauma, and pain) that may still be lingering within our psyche.
This inner transformational journey is not easy and requires soul discipline, dedication and foresight. It requires discipline because the lead that arises from our psyche may not be pleasant to look at it. It might be perceived as the most hideous thing we have ever seen and yet is it a part of us nonetheless. Scorpionic energy as the alchemist, comes forward to confront this perspective, to firmly grasp it within its hands and to gently drop it into its cauldron so that it may be transformed.
This process is repeated over and over again with each new shadow that is uncovered thus requiring tremendous dedication to remain true and committed to the process though it may be exceedingly trying at times.
This path requires foresight for the alchemist understands that there will always be new lead to be converted into gold. He does not allow himself to get frustrated or weighed down by this knowing but rather practices deep gratitude and humility at the sacred task he has chosen. He has chosen to know thyself and recognizes that this quest will be a lifelong experiment, understanding that every conversion of lead into gold will change his life for the better.
It is this change within himself that he seeks, and it is this change that will always propel him further upon his path. This undying desire to know who he is beneath it all is what fuels his inner fire and keeps his cauldron hot and ready to melt yet more lead.
While Scorpio embodies this archetype, it’s important to recognize that we all have access to this energy, as each of us has Scorpio somewhere in our birth chart. And so the sacred alchemist, with its fiery hot cauldron, lives within each and every one of us.
